Lisa has extensive life experience with horses, having owned them since the age of seven.  In early adulthood, Lisa gained qualifications in Horse & Stud Management, and worked at Springhill Thoroughbred Stud, where she bred several of her own thoroughbreds before relocating to the North Coast of NSW in the early 1980’s.

Lisa has also undertaken extensive university studies, holding both a Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental Science) and a Master of Science (Biology) from Southern Cross University.

Lisa has continued her specialist equine education by completing studies with Dr. Eleanor M. Kellon, VMD, an internationally recognised veterinarian based in the USA, who specialises in equine nutrition and equine nutraceuticals.

Consultations with Lisa focus on mineral-balancing nutrition and mineral supplementation. Lisa also offers a comprehensive pasture testing service, with the results used to personalise mineral formulations specific for each horse based upon nutrient levels in pastures, hay and general diet. 

Lisa has a particular interest in supporting horses with iron overload, an issue commonly found in horses grazing on red soil throughout the Northern Rivers of NSW and south-east Queensland. She helps support horse owners to manage and reverse the hoof and coat problems associated with high iron. Living in the high oxalate region of NSW, Lisa also has extensive experience in balancing calcium in horses with deficiencies. 

Lisa is known for her “Caldera Mix”, a specialised blend of minerals that contain high levels of Zinc and Copper at the correct ratios which can help offset high iron intake in the horses diet. Lisa also provides both individual and blended minerals for horses, including calciums, all of which are available from The Equine Apothecary.
